THE THINKING WELL COLLECTION

Noise

Think • Reflect • Talk

What counts as noise?

Noise isn't only sound.

It can be...

what other people say
what we think other people expect
what we tell ourselves
what competes for our attention
what we find difficult to switch off

The cards don't tell pupils which voices are right or wrong. They create opportunities to notice, reflect and talk.

Young people are surrounded by noise — sounds, opinions, expectations, messages, distractions and the thoughts running through their own heads.

Noise gives schools a practical way to help pupils notice what is getting their attention, explore how they respond to it, and create space to think and talk about what they need.

Use them your way

There is no programme to follow and no single “right” way to use the cards.

Use them in tutor time, pastoral conversations, small groups, reflection activities or wider wellbeing work.

The Noise Cards invite pupils to notice what is competing for their attention — around them and inside their own heads — and explore how they respond.

There are no right or wrong answers. They're not designed to tell pupils what to think. They're designed to help them notice what they're listening to, what affects them and what they might choose to give their attention to.

Sometimes the conversation is more important than the answer.
