Students spend a lot of time preparing for what they need to know. 

They revise. They practise questions. They learn how to approach the paper.

But sitting an exam isn't only about knowing the answers.

For some students, the exam room itself will be unfamiliar.

Waiting to go in. Being told where to sit. Working in silence. Having invigilators moving around the room. Seeing other students begin writing. Turning over the paper and not immediately knowing an answer.

These may seem like small things.

But if a student hasn't thought about them beforehand, they can affect their attention, their thoughts and what they do next.

Exam Room Ready gives students the opportunity to think about the experience before they're actually sitting in the exam room.

The presentation itself takes approximately 13 minutes. 

You can deliver it from beginning to end and give students time to complete their Exam Room Plan afterwards, or pause at relevant points if you want to give them more time to think and discuss.

Students are encouraged to think about:

• What might the exam room feel like for me?
• What could take my attention away from what I'm doing?
• What might happen when I first look at the paper?
• What do I already know helps me when I feel unsure or distracted?
• What could I do to bring my attention back and decide what to do next?

They don't need to prepare for everything that could possibly happen.

The aim is to help them think ahead and have some ideas ready if they need them.
