I’ve been teaching Reminiscence and Crafts to teachers, carers and those in Social Care since 1976 when I first qualified as a Primary School Teacher from The Froebel Institute, Roehampton, UK.
In the late 1990s I worked on 2 programmes that shaped how Reminiscence was delivered in Norfolk, UK. First, I was invited to teach Carers how to create Life Story Books for those in Care Settings.
The success of RAFE (Reminiscence Approaches for the Frail and Elderly) drew interest from Pabulum – an innovative home based project that taught Volunteers how to create personal Life Story Books to use with those with Dementia, and their families. I was fortunate to work with Pabulum gaining much experience of Dementia and the benefits of Reminiscence to the whole person.
So I know how challenging this work is, and how difficult it can be to come up with consistently engaging topics, when you’re hard pushed for time, and down on energy.
I saw how that was for our Carers and Volunteers, and decided to use my teaching background approach to helping them push through their sticking points.
The solution - Reminiscence Works, evolved as a Reminiscence Routemap – a series of templates that you could use to build your sessions around.
